Hello loves, happy Friday 🩷
Before I start I’m sending so much love and strength to everyone in LA dealing with the horrendous fires. I have a very dear friend there and also friends with family there — I wish I could send the London weather to help things calm down.
Today’s video is my little recap of 2024.
It contains all the horizontal videos clips I filmed with my phone last year — the rest were vertical, shot with Instagram in mind. In fact, the majority of my photos from the last few years are in a vertical format. I’m a big believer that the best camera is the one you have on you, but still, my art student heart is yearning to stretch her wings again.
You see, I’m secretly a wannabe film maker :-)
My first big artistic love was (and still is) photography, so much so I spent three years at art college camped out in the darkroom. Stories & images have always been intertwined for me, and to do that with MOVING images? My heart’s all aflutter.
I spend more time on YouTube than any other social media platform but I’ve always felt too intimidated to jump in. I’ve been steadily bringing more videos into my courses since 2020 and that’s now spilling over into this wonderful space. It’s making me want to go further!
So in the back of my mind I’m viewing today’s video as the first in an experiment. I want to film more, play more, learn more, experiment more. Already I’m looking at the clips and seeing what I’d add (b-roll! More angles! Shallow depth of field!) and what I could improve. It feels vulnerable to come to something as a beginner, but it’s exciting too.
I’d love to get to January 2026 and see some radical improvement, but I’m not setting any rules, goals or expectations — that’s the fastest way to shut this down.
Instead I’m following the creative joy.
And you know I’ll be sharing my experiments here ❤️
Today’s questions
What’s been bringing you creative joy lately?
What creative experiments are you planning for 2025? What feels juicy and exciting? Maybe a little scary too? :-)
